Sometimes it is difficult to come up with a single variable (such as length or duration) that captures the degree of specification conformance. In such cases, one can instead track the percentage of defective items in a given sample by using a p-chart, a type of “attribute” control chart. The method to construct a p-chart is the same as the methods we used to construct x¯-charts and Rcharts: calculate control limits as plus and minus three standard deviations from the mean. Follow these steps to construct control limits for a p-chart:1. Collect samples over several time periods. 2. The average percent defective, p¯, is the total number of defective units in the samples divided by the total number of units sampled. 3. Estimate the standard deviation as 4.Question 10 (11 points). After reading my three key elements of my merger plan, do you think that my sources of power will help
After reading my three key elements of my merger plan, do you think that my sources of power will help achieve it becoming a successful merger? Why or why not? In my merger plan I would be working to learn the leadership style and characteristics of the previous leader of the incoming unit, I would also work to learn the new units outcomes, motivators and goals. I would be watching the incoming unit during the transition period to learn how they work together and how they work with their new colleagues. I could then work to match my leadership according to the situational factors. There are multiple sources of power that I could draw from. One being legitimate power, as I was appointed as the new merged units’ manager. With legitimate power, I can determine the direction of the newly merged unit, but I must do that by leading by example (The 5 Types of Power in Leadership, 2018). However, just having legitimate power isn’t going to be enough to have a successful unit, to be a good manager/leader I will need more than just legitimate power (Brighton School of Business and Management, n.d.).I could also draw from expert power. I was appointed as the manager of the new merged unit because I am an expert in my field. I have shown that my skills and knowledge would help lead the new unit to success. I have shown that my insights and experiences can be trusted and that I am a good leader because of them (The 5 Types of Power in Leadership, 2018). Lastly, I could draw from reward power. As the manager of the new unit, I could provide incentives and positive reinforcement for employees who are meeting and exceeding expectations. This could help keep the unit pushing forward and working to achieve success. This source of power would have to be used in conjunction with the other sources of power though, because while I could provide small incentives and positive reinforcement, I would not always have the ability to provide everything that everyone wanted (Brighton School of Business and Management, n.d.).I think the combination of these sources of power in my plan would help set up a successful merge between the two units.
At the start of the strategy-making process, a company’s senior managers must struggle with the issue of what directional path
At the start of the strategy-making process, a company’s senior managers must struggle with the issue of what directional path the company should take and whether its market positioning and future performance prospects could be improved by changing the company’s product offerings, the markets in which it participates, the customers it caters to and/or the technologies it employs. Top management’s views about the company’s long-term direction and future product-customer-market-technology focus constitute a strategic vision for the company. A clearly articulated strategic vision communicates management’s aspirations to stakeholders about “where we are going” and helps steer the energies of company personnel in a common direction. For instance, Henry Ford’s vision of a car in every garage had power because it captured the imagination of others, aided internal efforts to mobilize the Ford Motor Company’s resources, and served as a reference point for gauging the merits of the company’s strategic actions. Well-conceived visions are distinctive and specific to a particular organization; they avoid generic, feel-good statements such as “We will become a global leader and the first choice of customer’s in every market we choose to serve”—which could apply to any of hundreds of organizations. And they are not the product of a committee charged with coming up with an innocuous but well-meaning one-sentence vision that wins consensus approval from various stakeholders. Nicely worded vision statements with no specifics about the company’s product-market-customer-technology focus fall well short of what it takes for a vision to measure up. For a strategic vision to function as a valuable managerial tool, it must provide understanding of what management wants its business to look like and give managers a reference point in making strategic decisions. It must say something definitive about how the company’s leaders intend to position the company beyond where it is today. Illustration Capsule 2.1 provides examples of the strategic visions of several companies with a critique of each, including effective elements and shortcomings. Identify the effective elements and shortcomings of American Express’s vision statement.

Create a model of her business and run a breakeven analysis.2) Imani is considering adding a commission structure to incent her employees to sell more flavors.
