Your Task
There are two core components to this activity: to work in-class to undertake a draft group analysis of the
Scenario and then using that analysis create an individual written report.
Assessment Description
PART 1A. (Individual)
In order to fully explore the themes covered in the scenario, provide options and apply the various theories
that you have covered in the subject so far, two In-Class Sessions will focus on exploring the Scenario in
detail. You will undertake an analysis of the Scenario and then individually upload an image/file to the
Moodle Submission Box in Week 5. On-line Class Attendance/Participation is required to complete this
assessment
PART 1B. (Individual)
Building on the theories identified below, you are asked to apply what you have learned so far in the
subject to the provided scenario. Marks will be allocated based on your assessment of the scenario
provided, your understanding what needs to be done and the decisions you make as to how you would
approach the situation based on the procedures discussed in your readings and in-class discussions.
You will be given two questions to answer as part of your assessment, the questions will be provided to
you in Week 3 in-class

SCENARIO
“You are a Senior Manager in a well-known Accounting Firm. You need to speak to Samantha who is a
junior Accountant working in your Department and staff have come to you with a range of complaints
about her.
You know that Samantha arrives late for work most days which is creating an issue as other team
members need to cover her work until she arrives. When she is running late, she often seems agitated
and is difficult to understand, as English is not her first language. Although you have asked her if there is
anything wrong, she doesn’t want to disclose any information. She prefers to communicate via email
rather than by phone or face-to-face. She rarely contributes to meetings but will send off a range of emails
afterwards with her views. As all your staff work in an open planned office, she sits at her desk with her
headphones on to block out any peripheral noise. As a result, she is often out-of-the loop and rarely has
any idea what is going on.
She is very individualistic in her approach to work and your staff have continually complained about this
lack of team engagement and contribution.
She has high levels of self-esteem and is always seeking validation for the quality of her work. She
constantly reminds her colleagues that she has an overseas accounting qualification and a lot of
experience which she believes is better than theirs.
You are concerned as to how she will receive this feedback as she is generally poor at listening and
doesn’t take any form of negative feedback well, especially when it has come from her colleagues.
Samantha has a history of becoming defensive and aggressive when faced with negative feedback”.

• You MUST use the same organisation/company as you used in Part A
• You should include a minimum of 3 references (contemporary business articles, news items and/or comparison
websites). While many of your references will rely on the organisation/company’s website, you cannot use this
as your only source of information.
