The health care industry has a saying about change that varies a bit depending upon where you practice. It goes something like “As soon as you have mastered the latest technology or process it will be changed”. Ask anyone that works in the health care industry and they will have numerous stories about change to share…but why is this so? The challenges we now face are different. A globalized economy is creating both more hazards and more opportunities for everyone, forcing firms to make dramatic improvements to not only compete and prosper but to merely survive (Kotter 2012, p. 20). In health care insurance companies – in other words, the masters of the funds play a large role in causing change. Other determining factors include patient safety/care quality as well as community needs and of course staffing safety/needs. Covid-19 certainly changed not only the health care industry but every industry due to new safety requirements. The health care industry was able to look backwards in its preparation to the Covid-19 pandemic because of other diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). One strategy, in line with national direction, focused on enhanced screening, surveillance, and isolation of suspected cases as well as ensuring the required resources and manpower were in place both for current needs and stepwise scale-up (Archuleta et al 2020). The disease itself established a sense of urgency. Hospitals and the like typically have a strong leadership coalition in place which is reinforced by safety concerns for not only patients and society but for health care workers as well. Communication of change is paramount. The use of personal protective equipment and cleaning protocols are paramount. Covid-19 has caused all health care workers such as ambulance crew and hospital staff to utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) with full-length gown, N95 masks and goggles when attending to patients (Quah et al 2020). Health care workers are empowered to prevent Covid-19 spreading by encouraging others to remain six feet apart as well as practicing good hand hygiene – even limiting/preventing visitors in the hospital. Preventing the spread of Covid-19 generates short term wins which encourages others to take more steps such as cleaning their work areas, desktops and phones daily to prevent disease spread. These actions become anchored into the daily culture and trends of disease spread drop within facilities. Some resistance may be felt throughout the health care industry to these changes. Some people do not believe Covid-19 is real. This of course is foolish and short sighted. Many simply do not want to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks as they can cause shortness of breath in some people – especially those people with breathing disorders. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential in preventing workplace injuries or illnesses among health care providers by providing a physical barrier between microorganism and wearer (Deepthi, Masthi, Nirmala, Manjula,

Candy and Philip, bus drivers for Latino Delivery, Inc., a transportation company, began soliciting signatures from other drivers to certify the Teamsters Local Union No. 777 as the official representative of the employees. Latino Delivery fired Carol and Pedro. The two drivers filed a claim with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleging that the employer had committed an unfair labor practice. (See Labor Unions) Which employer practice defined by the National Labor Relations Act did the plaintiffs most likely charge Latino Delivery with committing? Is the employer’s discharge of Candy and Philip likely to be construed as a legitimate act in opposition to union solicitation? If a violation is found, what can the NLRB do? Discuss.

He heard from his wife that Bobby, an acquaintance of hers, was interested in buying a boat. So Jonathan promptly wrote a letter to Bobby, offering to sell the latter his yacht for S$300,000. By the end of the telephone discussion, Bobby said that he was “keen to buy the yacht” and asked if there was anything else that Jonathan required. Jonathan responded that he wanted written confirmation of Bobby’s acceptance since the transaction involved a large sum of money and Jonathan had to process and submit a lot of paperwork to the maritime authority prior to the actual sale.Jonathan said that if he received a letter of acceptance from Bobby by 5.00pm by Wednesday, Jonathan would proceed with the sale at S$300,000. Bobby promptly typed out and posted a letter of acceptance on Monday afternoon. By Monday evening, Bobby had sold part of his equity portfolio to get ready the purchase price of S$300,000. Zachary wants to build a decorative wall on his balcony, so that he can hang his flowering plants and creepers. He visited TrustMe Décors Pte Ltd, a Singapore interior design and construction company. Mr. Lee from TrustMe advised Zachary that he should install a new type of wall, made from RePlas. It is a new type of building material, made in Germany from recycled plastic. Mr. Lee said that RePlas was a very stable compound and can withstand huge amount of stress and weight, more than suitable for Zachary’s intended use.Zachary expressed his concern that new types of building materials are typically problematic since workers are usually not trained properly to handle such materials. Mr. Lee assured Zachary that all its workers had training in using RePlas to construct walls. Zachary was sceptical and asked what type of training Mr. Lee’s workers had received. He asked if the training was conducted by professionals in Germany as he only trusted training from the manufacturer. Mr. Lee laughed and said, “Don’t worry, all my workers are trained properly.” He further added, “We are the most famous in building walls.”Upon hearing that, Zachary went ahead to order the wall. Two months after the wall was constructed by TrustMe, it started sagging and there was water seepage. Not long after, the wall collapsed.Zachary went online and did a search on TrustMe and discovered many netizens complaining about TrustMe. An ex-employee even blogged that the workers at TrustMe had never received any training in using RePlas, and no one from the German manufacturer had explained to them how to use RePlas.Advise Zachary on whether he can sue TrustMe for breach of contractual terms. In your analysis, identify and analyse the nature of the statements made by Mr. Lee, on behalf of TrustMe.
